1. Fulfill an Obligation Upon Us
Da’wah is recognised by the majority of scholars as being obligatory upon every Muslim. Therefore, we can interpret that the act of da’wah is something of great importance within Islam and more importantly to Allah
. Consequently, by fulfilling our obligatory acts we can look to achieve the pleasure of Allah
and get close to Him. As it states in a hadith, Allah
says:
“…And My slave does not come close to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory upon him. My slave continues to come nearer to Me through voluntary deeds until I love him, and when I love him, I become his ears with which he hears, I become his sight with which he sees, I become his hands with which he strikes, I become his legs with which he strides. If he asks Me, I shall surely grant his request.” [Bukhari]
This beautiful hadith highlights the massive reward of completing the obligatory acts that can motivate us to carry out this important duty. In contrast, it is worth considering the consequences of neglecting something that is obligatory upon us. For example, we understand Allah
has prescribed 5 daily prayers and the severe consequences we may face for missing just one of those prayers. Consequently, we should give great consideration to da’wah before abandoning or even neglecting this and therefore look to making it part of our lives in some way, shape or form.
2. Doing the Job of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad
The occupation of the Prophet Muhammad
along with all other prophets was to be a Da’ee (caller to Islam). For us to be given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the greatest man to have ever lived is a huge honour and favour given to us by Allah
.
As we are followers of Muhammad
, the responsibility of continuing this work falls on our shoulders, which is something worth remembering. So we should try to keep in mind of whom we are imitating by giving da’wah. In sha Allah, this will inspire us to continue with this important duty by following the one who should be more beloved to us than ourselves.
As stated in a hadith:
“None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind.” [Bukhari]
It can be easy to say ‘I like or love that person’, but proving that affection can only be done through actions which can involve telling others about the qualities of that person and emulating the ways of that person. As they say: actions speak louder than words.
3. Be From Those Who are Remembered in the Supplication of Others
Through helping someone revert to Islam or return to practising Islam, In sha Allah you will find that person being a happier individual than before. As an expression of gratitude, it is often likely that a person will personally thank you. Hopefully they will also remember you in their supplications for being there to give them valuable advice, offer support and pass on beneficial knowledge to help direct them to the straight path.
Also, as the Prophet
says:
“God, His angels and all those in the Heavens and on Earth, even ants in their ant-hills and fish in the water, call down blessings on those who instruct others in beneficial knowledge.” [Tirmidhi]
This highlights the great rewards that can be achieved through giving da’wah and passing on useful knowledge to others. Being remembered in the supplication of others is something we should all want to have.
4. Be Part of the Change You Wish to See
It is a bit of a cliché when people talk about the state of the Muslim world and the attacks by the media etc. But for change to come about, we would need to change ourselves and look at what we realistically are able to achieve.
As Allah
says:
“Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves.” [Qur’an: Chapter 13, Verse 11]
This can involve little changes for example giving da’wah to a non-Muslim colleague about Islam or looking at our own areas of weakness as individuals and looking to rectify those weaknesses with the help and grace of Allah
. We cannot change the world individually and Allah
is not expecting us to either. However, we should try to strive and impact positively on our local environment and society with whatever skills and abilities He has blessed us with.
I am sure we would wish to see those around us, such as our friends, family and neighbours, from being of those that are pious and righteous. In sha Allah sharing this beautiful way of life with others will go a long way to making this happen.
5. Strengthen Your Faith and Relationship with Allah the Almighty
It is commonly mentioned by those involved in da’wah that the first person to benefit from the knowledge passed on is yourself. Through continuously passing on the message of Islam and reminding others of the greatness of Allah
, In sha Allah you indeed strengthen your belief and relationship with Allah
and His chosen way of life. Consequently, this helps to prevent you from becoming neglectful of Him.
Many Muslims are excellent when it comes to performing the rituals of Islam e.g. fasting, zakat and salah etc., which is great. However, continuously performing rituals without adding to them can cause you to become stagnant and possibly act as a barrier to strengthening your relationship with Allah
.
Take the example of a person who always lifts 10kg with the same amount of repetitions each time. Is that person likely to get stronger?
The person may not become weak, but he will not become stronger either. We as Muslims should strive to push ourselves to do better. A higher level of faith is likely to lead us closer to Allah
and therefore offer us greater rewards and as a result, make us winners in this life as well as the hereafter.
Furthermore, we can have a look at those who were strongest in faith in Allah
which includes the Prophets and the companions of Muhammad
for proof of this. Their lives were full of sacrifices for Allah
in terms of their time, health and wealth and this contributed to them being of the closest to Allah
, and not necessarily due to the quantity of prayers performed and Qur’an read.
Just adding to the point of not being stagnant, a sheikh recently mentioned how the shaytan always looks to come close and catch up to us. To avoid being stuck on the same level of faith or have our faith decline, we need to continuously do good deeds to distance ourselves from him.
Giving da’wah should help us to avoid his clutches as not only are we performing good deeds, we are encouraging others towards good, presenting a real blow to the shaytan.
6. Find Yourself Leading a Happier Life
This is likely to be achieved through knowing you have helped somebody else to feel happier, which is a result of them coming close to Allah
and following the way of his beloved Prophet Muhammad
. Giving da’wah can include giving advice to a fellow Muslim who is going through a difficult time and reminding them how Allah
is near and always there for them to turn to. Therefore, the da’wah given does not require you to be a specialist beforehand, as the Prophet
said:
“Convey from me, even one verse.” [Bukhari]
Also, if you are blessed enough to be used as a tool by Allah
to guide someone to Islam then that should provide you with a warm glow inside knowing you have helped to save a person from shirk.
Think about a non-Muslim neighbour or colleague you have and how you would feel if they accepted Islam on your hands with the grace of Allah
. Again, it is worth thinking about that person and if they died in that state of disbelief. As Muslims, since we know where those that disbelief will dwell forever, would we wish that for them or any of the non-Muslims around us?
The Prophet
in relation to this says:
“By Allah, if a single person is guided by Allah through you, it will be better for you than the best of camels.” [Bukhari]
Additionally, Allah
says Himself about the people that are successful:
“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining Al-Ma’roof (Islamic monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (Polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are successful.” [Qur’an: Chapter 3, Verse 104]
Who would know better than Our Creator about what is success and those that are successful?
7. Continue to Achieve Good Deeds After You Have Passed Away
This would occur through the good deeds committed by others as a result of the knowledge you have passed on. This can be knowledge you pass on to your children, for example how to make wudu. Also, the knowledge you have passed on to a non-Muslim who has reverted as a result of your da’wah will offer enormous rewards In sha Allah.
Think of the following situation: you give da’wah to a non-Muslim friend who at the age of 19 or 20 becomes a Muslim with the guidance of Allah
. After a few years, that friend may settle down with another Muslim and In sha Allah have children who are raised on this deen as well as themselves having a long and pious life. Then a portion of the reward achieved by all these individuals would come back into your book of deeds.
It does not stop there because this friend may become a scholar, or his/her children may become scholars or they themselves may invite many others towards Islam. In sha Allah, all of these actions will find a portion of the reward into your account for the initial da’wah you gave.
We know about the uncertainty of death and our short stay in this world. Unfortunately, some people miss the opportunity to do good deeds before passing away, after which it is too late to go back. This requires us to make an investment now for the hereafter so that we pick up good deeds in the grave even when we physically do not have the capacity to do good deeds.
As the Prophet
perfectly says:
“When a man dies, his good deeds come to an end except three: on going charity, beneficial knowledge and righteous offspring who will pray for him.” [Muslim]
8. Help Your Cause Against the Questioning in the Hereafter
We understand as Muslims we will be asked about how we lived our lives e.g. whether it was in obedience to Allah
or not. We are also going to be asked about the knowledge we possess, which can include basic knowledge such as the shahadah.
The Prophet
talked about the consequences of those who do not spread possessed knowledge:
“Whoever is asked about some knowledge that he knows, then he conceals it, he will be bridled with bridle of fire.” [Tirmidhi]
Consequently, by giving da’wah and passing on whatever authentic knowledge we have, In sha Allah we can protect ourselves in the hereafter from the wrath of Allah
. By engaging in da’wah, we can help our cause in this world by protecting ourselves against the punishment of Allah
, as the Prophet
says:
“By Allah, in who’s Hands is my soul, you will enjoin the good and prohibit the evil (or else), Allah will soon send upon you a punishment from Him, then you will call upon Him and He will not answer you.” [Tirmidhi]
Dear Brothers and Sisters, the different points mentioned are just some of the benefits of being involved in da’wah. It is also worth reflecting on the potential pitfalls of neglecting this important duty. A point to consider is that with so many statements relating to da’wah, they provide strong evidence about the importance of da’wah to Allah
and how it should also be a feature in our lives. In my next article, I will discuss how we can do da’wah.
What other benefits can be achieved through taking part in da’wah? If you are involved in da’wah, how has it impacted your life? Please share your knowledge in the comments section below, so we may inspire one another to take part in this blessed act!

Islamic teachings have long provided a source of inspiration and guidance for millions of people around the world. The wisdom passed down from renowned Islamic scholars offers profound insights into faith, life, and spirituality. These powerful quotes serve as reminders to live a life of purpose, devotion, and resilience, providing encouragement and strength in times of need. Whether you’re seeking to deepen your faith or find peace in challenging moments, the following quotes will inspire and uplift your heart.
1. “The best of you in Islam are those with the best character
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
Source: Musnad Ahmad 9880, Grade:
The best of you in Islam are those with the best character, if they have religious understanding.
2. “The world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever.” — Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
This hadith, narrated by Muslim, reflects the idea that true believers should not be too attached to worldly pleasures. For a believer, this life is filled with trials and tribulations that test their faith. However, the promise of the Hereafter serves as a greater reward, making this world seem like a temporary prison. In contrast, those who focus solely on this life may find joy and ease, but their ultimate reward in the Hereafter may not be as favorable.
For Muslims, this quote encourages patience and perseverance, reminding them that any suffering in this life is temporary and will be replaced with eternal bliss in the Hereafter if one remains steadfast in faith.
3. “Have mercy on those on the earth, and the One in the heavens will have mercy on you.” — Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
This well-known hadith promotes the value of compassion and mercy in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized the importance of showing kindness to all creatures, whether human or animal. Mercy is a cornerstone of the Islamic faith, with believers encouraged to embody the qualities of the Most Merciful, Allah (SWT).
In today’s world, this quote serves as a timeless reminder that treating others with kindness and compassion will not only benefit the individual but also invite God’s mercy into their own lives.
4. “The best of people are those who bring most benefit to the rest of mankind.” — Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
This saying reflects the essence of service in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) consistently taught his followers to serve humanity selflessly, promoting the welfare of others as a means to draw closer to God. Helping others, whether through charity, advice, or simple acts of kindness, is highly rewarded in Islam.
This quote inspires believers to look beyond their own needs and focus on making a positive impact in the lives of others, thereby becoming valuable members of their communities.
5. “Richness is not having many possessions, but true wealth is contentment of the soul.” — Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
In this profound hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) shifts the focus from material wealth to spiritual fulfillment. True richness lies in the heart, where contentment and peace reside. A person who is content with what they have is far richer than someone who may possess the entire world but feels dissatisfied.
In an age of consumerism and materialism, this quote stands as a reminder that true satisfaction and happiness cannot be bought. It can only be found within, through a deep connection with God and a grateful heart.
6. “Patience is a treasure from the treasures of Paradise.” — Imam Al-Ghazali
Imam Al-Ghazali, a prominent Islamic philosopher and scholar, placed great emphasis on patience (sabr) as a virtue. He taught that patience is not only important in facing challenges but also in practicing restraint in times of temptation. The rewards of patience are immense, as the Quran and Hadith frequently remind believers that those who remain patient will be granted Paradise.
This quote encourages believers to endure hardships with grace, knowing that their patience will be richly rewarded in the Hereafter.
7. “Fear him whom you hate.” — Imam Ali (RA)
This powerful statement from Imam Ali speaks to the importance of self-awareness and humility. Hatred can blind an individual to their own flaws and weaknesses. When a person hates someone, they are often projecting qualities they dislike about themselves onto others. This quote calls for introspection and encourages believers to confront their own shortcomings before criticizing others.
In a world filled with division and conflict, this quote teaches tolerance, humility, and self-improvement.
8. “If your heart is not involved in the prayer, you will not gain from it.” — Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya
Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya, a renowned scholar and student of Ibn Taymiyyah, emphasized the importance of sincerity in worship. This quote highlights that the physical act of prayer is meaningless if the heart and mind are not fully engaged. In Islam, prayer is a means to connect with Allah, and without heartfelt devotion, the act loses its true essence.
This reminder encourages Muslims to approach their worship with mindfulness, ensuring that they gain the spiritual benefits that prayer offers.
9. “Detach yourself from the world and your heart will find peace.” — Imam Al-Shafi’i
Imam Al-Shafi’i, one of the four great Imams of Islamic jurisprudence, often spoke about the fleeting nature of this world. Detaching from worldly desires allows a person to focus on what truly matters: their relationship with God. This quote serves as a powerful reminder that true peace can only be found when one’s heart is free from the distractions of materialism and focused on the eternal.
In an increasingly materialistic world, this wisdom is more relevant than ever, encouraging believers to seek contentment in their faith rather than worldly possessions.
10. “Do not belittle any good deed, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face.” — Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
This beautiful saying from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) highlights that even the smallest acts of kindness are valuable in Islam. A smile, a kind word, or a simple gesture of goodwill can have a profound impact on someone’s day and are considered acts of charity in the eyes of Allah (SWT).
This quote encourages believers to spread positivity and kindness in every interaction, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant.
The wisdom of Islamic scholars and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) provide endless inspiration for Muslims seeking to strengthen their faith and live more fulfilling, righteous lives. These powerful quotes offer not only guidance but also a source of comfort and motivation to stay steadfast in belief, no matter the challenges faced. By reflecting on these words, believers can find the strength to persevere in their spiritual journeys and bring more compassion, patience, and peace into the world.

Definitions and terminology
The word da’wah comes from the Arabic trilateral verb stem da-a-ya-
Linguistically, da’wah means ‘to invite’ or ‘to call’.
The technical / shari meaning of the word da’wah includes: ‘calling people to the din of Allah and his Messenger. It is used in this sense in Q. 16:125.
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided. (Surat al-Nahl, 16:125)
Scholarly statements regarding ‘da’wah’
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said, ‘Da’wah is to call people to believe in Allah and what His Messengers came with by accepting what they came with and obeying them in what they commanded….
‘Da’wah to Allah entails calling to all that He commanded and forbidding all that He forbade; and that is amr bi’l maruf wa’l-nahy ‘an al-munkar [‘enjoining the good and forbidding the evil’] precisely.’
Shaykh Abd al-Aziz b. Abd Allah b. Baz wrote concerning da’wah, ‘As for its [da’wah’s] ruling, the evidences within the Qur’an and Sunnah indicate the obligation of establishing da’wah to Allah and that it is from the fundamental obligatory duties.’
The Qur’an is a book of dawah.
If we consider the stories of the Prophets we do not encounter descriptions of what they looked like, how they prayed or the amount of dhikr they made. If you were to be asked, ‘How many times did Nüh fast a week?’ you will struggle to find an answer.
The reason for this is that the stories of the Prophets are stories of da’wah, every single Prophet was sent to humanity to deliver the message of tawhid, the message of Islam.
The Qur’an commands us to give da’wah in various places, for instance, Allah says:
وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ ﴿١٠٤﴾
Let there arise out of You a group of people inviting to All that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma’rûf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and All that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and All that Islam has forbidden). and it is they who are the successful.(Surat Al Imran, 3:104)
You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient. (Surat Al Imran, 3:110)
Your Da’wah team
Select your ameer/ah, who will…
• Speak on behalf of the team – Don’t forget the etiquettes of being a leader, it is not a dictatorship and a good leader consults everyone for their opinion and input. Just like the leadership style of the Prophet Muhammad().
• Facilitate team discussion – Remember that not everyone is confident and an extrovert, make a conscious effort to get everyone involved in the discussion.
• Make the final decision – There may be difference of opinion but it is the ameer/ah’s job to make a decision based upon the varied views.
• Keep your team quiet while others are talking This is not only good etiquette but by keeping the team quiet ensures that they are learning from what other people have to say.
As a team…
• Introduce yourselves
Select your Team Name
• Discuss your projects
Write down minutes of your meetings.

Importance of following the path of Allah
Allah created man and caused him to dwell on this earth, but He did not forsake him. Rather He gave him what he needs of food, drink and clothing, and revealed to him throughout the ages a path to follow and be guided by. The interests and happiness of mankind at every time and in every place depend upon following the path of Allah and rejecting all others:
وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَن سَبِيلِهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ وَصَّاكُم بِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ ﴿١٥٣﴾
“And verily, this (i.e. Allah's Commandments mentioned in the above two Verses 151 and 152) is My straight path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious)” [al-An'am 6:153 – interpretation of the meaning]
Islam is the last of the heavenly religions and the Quran is the last of the heavenly Books. Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the last of the Prophets and Messengers. Allah commanded him to convey this religion to all of mankind:
وَهُوَ الْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِ ۚ وَهُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ ﴿١٨﴾
“And He is the subjugator over His servants. And He is the Wise, the Acquainted [with all]” [al-An’am 6:18]
Allah sent His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with Islam to all of mankind, as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلَيْكُمْ جَمِيعًا...﴿١٥٨﴾
“Say (O Muhammad): ‘O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the Messenger of Allah'”[al-A'raf 7:158]
Da’wah is the best of deeds
Da’wah or calling others to Islam is the best of deeds, because it involves guiding people to the Straight Path and to that which will bring them happiness in this world and in the Hereafter:
وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا مِّمَّن دَعَا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا وَقَالَ إِنَّنِي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ﴿٣٣﴾
“And who is better in speech than he who [says: ‘My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness),’ and then stands firm (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah’s (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: ‘I am one of the Muslims.’”[Fussilat 41:33 – interpretation of the meaning]
Da’wah: The mission of prophets and messengers
Calling others to Islam is an honourable mission. This is the work of the prophets and messengers. The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) explained that his mission in life, and the mission of his followers, is to call people to Allah . Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
قُلْ هَٰذِهِ سَبِيلِي أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ ۚ عَلَىٰ بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي ۖ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ﴿١٠٨﴾
“Say (O Muhammad): ‘This is my way; I invite unto Allah (i.e. to the Oneness of Allah — Islamic Monotheism) with sure knowledge , I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allah, i.e. to the Oneness of Allah — Islamic Monotheism with sure knowledge). And Glorified and Exalted be Allah (above all that they associate as partners with Him). And I am not of the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah; those who worship others along with Allah or set up rivals or partners to Allah)’.”[Yusuf 12:108]
Muslims are commanded to call people to Islam
The Muslims in general and the scholars in particular are commanded to call people to Islam , as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma‘ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful'' [Aal 'Imran 3:104]
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Convey from me even if it is (only) one ayah.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 3461)
What is da’wah?
Calling people to Allah is an important task and a glorious mission, because it means calling people to worship Allah Alone. It means bringing them forth from darkness to the light, planting goodness in the place of evil and truth in the place of falsehood.
Conditions of da’wah
Hence whoever does this needs to have knowledge, understanding, patience, forbearance, gentleness and kindness. He needs to give of his wealth and of himself, and he needs to understand people’s circumstances and habits. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Invite (mankind, O Muhammad) to the way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Revelation and the Quran) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.” [al-Nahl 16:125]
Allah blessed His Messenger with the words (interpretation of the meaning):
“And by the Mercy of Allah, you dealt with them gently. And had you been severe and harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about you; so pass over (their faults), and ask (Allah’s) forgiveness for them; and consult them in the affairs. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him].” [Aal ‘Imran 3:159]
Calling to Islam in the best manner
The da’iyah (caller) may be faced with debates in his da’wah activities, especially with the People of the Book. Allah has commanded us, if it reaches the point of debate, to debate in a manner that is better, which is with kindness and gentleness, explaining the principles of Islam as they came, pure and simple, in a kindly manner and with no element of compulsion. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And argue not with the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), unless it be in (a way) that is better (with good words and in good manner, inviting them to Islamic Monotheism with His Verses), except with such of them as do wrong; and say (to them): ‘We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you; our Ilah (God) and your Ilah (God) is One (i.e. Allah), and to Him we have submitted (as Muslims).’”
[al-‘Ankabut 29:46]
Reward of da’wah
Calling people to Allah is a virtuous deed which brings great reward. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever calls others to guidance will have a reward like the rewards of those who follow him, without that detracting from their reward in any way. And whoever calls others to misguidance will have a burden of sin like the burden of those who follow him, without that detracting from their burden in any way.”(Narrated by Muslim, 2674)
Facing da’wah challenges with patience
If building a physical structure needs effort and patience until it is complete, then building souls and guiding them to the truth also needs patience and sacrifice. The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called people to Islam, patiently bearing the persecution of the disbelievers, Jews and hypocrites. They made fun of him and disbelieved in him; they insulted him and threw stones at him; they said that he was a sorcerer or a madman; they accused him of being a poet or a soothsayer – but he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) bore all that with patience until Allah granted him victory and caused His Religion to prevail. So the da’iyah must follow his example:
فَاصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَخِفَّنَّكَ الَّذِينَ لَا يُوقِنُونَ ﴿٦٠﴾
“So be patient (O Muhammad). Verily, the Promise of Allah is true; and let not those who have no certainty of Faith discourage you from conveying Allah's Message (which you are obliged to convey) [al-Rum 30:60 – interpretation of the meaning]
The Muslims must follow the example and guidance of their Messenger and call others to Islam , bearing insults and harm with patience for the sake of Allah, as their Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did:
لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا ﴿٢١﴾
“Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much”[al-Ahzab 33:21 – interpretation of the meaning]
The well-being and happiness of this ummah are only to be found in following this religion. Hence Allah commanded us to convey the message to all of mankind, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):
هَٰذَا بَلَاغٌ لِّلنَّاسِ وَلِيُنذَرُوا بِهِ وَلِيَعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ ﴿٥٢﴾
“This (Quran) is a Message for mankind (and a clear proof against them), in order that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that He is the only One Ilah (God — Allah) — (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) — and that men of understanding may take heed.” [Ibrahim 14:52]
And Allah knows best.

Answer
Sheikh Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjid
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
- Dawah is the best vocation and the most excellent action a person can do.
- Being of this excellent place, dawah should be conducted with the highest level of morality, and the tools of dawah should be free from anything that contaminates it and diverts it from its way.
- There is nothing wrong with female converts asking men about the rulings of Islam. Women during the Prophet’s lifetime used to ask him about religious matters.
Shedding light on the ruling of men making dawah to women and the guidelines that should be followed in this regard, Sheikh Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjid, a prominent Saudi Muslim scholar and lecturer, states,
Islam has set out basic guidelines governing the relationship between men and women in a manner that achieves the aims of the Shari`ah.In addition, Islam aims at protecting Muslim men and women from the things that lead to fitnah (temptation).
Islam describes the basis of the relationship between the sexes in the Quran and Sunnah. One of the most important texts is the verse that reads, {O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allah), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honorable manner.} (Al-Ahzab 33:32)
What is not allowed here is being soft in speech. So the woman should speak in an honorable manner. Muslim scholars said that a woman should not make her speech soft when she speaks to men.
Although this verse is addressed to the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the reason—which is to prevent evil and immoral men from entertaining indecent notions concerning the chaste Muslim women—is general in meaning, so all the believing women are included here.
Concerning this verse, Al-Jassas said,
“It indicates that this is a ruling that applies to all women: they are forbidden to speak softly to men in a manner that might make them entertain indecent notions concerning them.” (Ahkam Al-Quran)
Islam has sent out general guidelines, in the light of which the details of specific issues may be worked out. We do not need to quote the evidence in detail for each matter.
The general principle set out in this verse may cover many of the specific issues, including the situation under discussion here.
There is nothing wrong with women asking men about the rulings of Islam, as the women used to ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about religious matters, especially if the questioners are female converts and need to learn the rulings that will make sure their creed is correct and will increase their conviction and belief in this religion.
When a man teaches a woman, this must be done in accordance with the Islamic guidelines referred to.
Our brothers who work in the field of dawah, especially the young men, should note that the one who knows himself to be weak and fears that he may fall into the traps of sin—namely becoming attracted to the women and being distracted from dawah—should avoid being in direct contact with women when making dawah, so long as there are others who are more able to do this task.
If there is a need to speak to them, then he should do as little as possible. As for one who thinks that he can be steadfast and is sure of himself, the basic principle is that it is permissible for him to speak to women, but that is subject to conditions, as follows:
- Avoid talking a great deal about matters other than the topic under discussion, i.e., the issues of dawah.
- Never crack jokes or get involved in a soft way of speaking.
- Do not ask about personal matters that have nothing to do with the topic.
- If some women who are already Muslims can answer the questions, or if other media such as cassette tapes, video tapes, CDs or the like, can answer the questions, that is better.
It is also better if a number of trustworthy people can take on the task of teaching this new Muslim woman, as this will make it less likely that a relationship or attachment will develop.
She will become more attached to the religion than to the particular person who guided her to the religion.
- Stop talking to any woman immediately if there are any stirrings of desire in the heart. Remember that Allah is always watching over you because this is a hidden matter which is known to no one except the person himself.
Allah Almighty knows best.

Quran verses about Dawah
Not upon the Messenger is [responsibility] except [for] notification. And Allah knows whatever you reveal
and whatever you conceal. (Al Maidah 5:99)
Since in the Qur’an the word “da`wah” appears numerous times, only those verses that speak of or imply the preaching and spreading of Islam are dealt here. The following lines of the Qur’an contain the word “da`wah” with this connotation.
If some servants of mine asked you about Me, I am indeed close and I respond to the call of a suppliant if he calls upon Me. So let them respond to My (invitation), so that they believe in Me and may be on the right side. (Al-Baqarah 2:186)
Those (unbelievers) invite to fire, and God invites to paradise. (Al-Baqarah 2:221)
Let there be a group of people among you who invite to goodness, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. (Aal `Imran 3:104)

Hadith on Da’wah: Guidance to Islam better than whole world
Abu Rafi’ reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “For Allah to guide a man by your hand is better for you than everything over which the sun rises and sets.”
